Getting started: saving your first recipes
Prep and Chef is built around one idea: every recipe you love, in one place. There are three ways to add a recipe:
- Paste a link. Copy a recipe URL from any website, paste it into the app, and we pull out the ingredients and steps for you.
- From a photo or screenshot. Snap a handwritten recipe card, a cookbook page, or a screenshot, and the app reads it and turns it into a clean, editable recipe.
- Type it in. Family recipes that live only in your head can go straight into the recipe editor.
You can also import from social media: paste a link from Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok and the app extracts the recipe from the post or video description. Pinterest import is on the way.
Every import lands as an editable draft, so you can fix a quantity or add your own notes before it joins your collection.
Sync across devices
Your recipes, meal plans, and shopping lists sync automatically through your Prep and Chef account. Sign in with the same account on each device — Apple, Google, or your email address — and your collection is there waiting. Sync is included on the free plan; there's nothing to turn on.
If something looks out of date, open Settings and check the sync status row. A manual "Sync Now" is available there too.
Subscriptions
What Premium includes
The free plan is genuinely useful on its own: save up to 10 recipes, plan meals, build shopping lists, and sync across devices. Premium removes the shelf limit and adds the extras:
- Unlimited recipe saves — no more 10-recipe cap.
- Nutrition insights — calories and macros for your recipes.
- Print and export — print recipes or export them as PDFs.
How billing works
Premium is an auto-renewing subscription billed through your Apple account. It is the annual plan — NZ$59.99 per year — and you can start it one of two ways: a 7-day free trial (no payment now) or a NZ$1.99 first month. Both introductory offers are for eligible subscribers — Apple determines eligibility, and if you're not eligible the annual price applies from the start. After the trial or intro month, the annual price applies unless you cancel.
Prices outside New Zealand are set by Apple's local pricing tiers — the exact price in your currency is always shown in the app before you confirm. Apple handles the payment; the purchase is governed by Apple's standard licensing terms.
How to cancel
You can cancel anytime, and you keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for (or until the trial ends). Cancel through Apple:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Prep and Chef, then Cancel Subscription.
To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends. Deleting the app — or deleting your account — does not cancel a subscription; only the App Store steps above do.
Restore purchases
Reinstalled the app or switched phones and Premium isn't showing? Go to Settings → Account → Restore Purchases in the app (or tap "Restore" on the upgrade screen). Make sure the device is signed in to the same Apple Account you subscribed with — restores look up the subscription on your Apple Account, not your Prep and Chef account.
Account and your data
Prep and Chef accounts are passwordless by design — there is no password to forget or leak. You sign in one of three ways:
- Sign in with Apple
- Sign in with Google
- Email — we send you a sign-in link and a one-time code. Tap the link or type the code, and you're in. Links expire after 15 minutes, so if yours has expired, just request a new one.
You can delete your account and your data directly in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. Step-by-step instructions — including what happens to your data and your subscription — are on our account deletion page. For details on what we collect and why, see the privacy policy.
